We've really enjoyed partnering with our client, Andrew Roby, to set up an online digital strategy that conveys their passion for their business and their passion for giving back! Pitchin' Corn for a Cure has quickly grown into a much anticipated event in just three short years. The Roby Team of employees, sponsors, clients, colleagues, family and friends surpassed their donation goal of $40,000 to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) in 2009! This year, they have ambitious plans as well. In addition to pledging $40,000 to the LLS, they are also aiming to raise $15,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Come on out, Saturday from 2:00 to 7:00pm on the Village Tavern Restaurant outdoor terrace. The weather is supposed to be beautiful and the temperature in the low 70’s! There will be two fantastic bands, face-painting for kids and the Carolina Panthers’ mascot, Sir Purr, will be a special guest! Although all of the tournament teams are filled, there will be a “Free-Play” cornhole game area for anyone who would like to play and there will be raffles for door prizes and other gifts. Food will be catered by The Village Tavern and drink specials will be available for the adults. Even if you can’t it make for the entire tournament, please feel free to stop in.

Whether you're planning to enjoy the festivities, and/or want to donate to either charity, please visit the Andrew Roby website for more information.

Living, working (and playing) in Center City has been especially gratifying over the last several years. One of my favorite events is attending the Center City Vision Awards. It's a wonderful evening of celebrating successes from the previous year and an opportunity to look at what's next. Here's more detail from Charlotte Center City Partners' on what to expect this year:

Studiobanks has had the great opportunity to partner with wonderful clients such as Charlotte Center City Partners who truly have their finger on the pulse of our great city. It was refreshing to participate in the 2020 Vision planning workshop last week and see so many members of the community proactively participate and contribute to the continued growth of Charlotte. CCCP did a fantastic job of utilizing social media to make this workshop a success.

More than 400 people gathered on Wednesday, October 21 in person and through a live webcast to share their vision for Charlotte’s 2020 Center City Vision Plan.

It was the first public step in the year-long process to create a year-year blueprint for the growth and development in the study area of Uptown, South End and and other close-in neighborhoods just beyond the I-277 loop.

Charlotte Center City Partners, in collaboration with the City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County, is working with MIG, INC. to create the public process and the final plan. 300 attended the workshop at the Charlotte Convention Center. Another 100 joined in on-line for a “virtual” workshop on CLT Blog.

TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from those three worlds. Since then its scope has expanded to include topics such as business, culture, arts, science and global issues. TED.com makes the best talks and performances from TED conferencees available to the public, for free. Inspired talks are given by the world's greatest thinkers and doers inlcuding: Al Gore, Bono, J.J. Abrams, Jeff Bezos and Stefan Sagmeister, just to name a few.

You may recall that AIGA Charlotte hosted a wildly successful event with Sagmeister in uptown Charlotte, back in April. Stefan Sagmeister formed the New York based Sagmeister Inc. in 1993 and has since designed for clients as diverse as the Rolling Stones, HBO, and the Guggenheim Museum. Having been nominated five times for the Grammies he finally won one for the Talking Heads boxed set. He also earned practically every important international design award.

Check out his funny and inspirational talk: "Yes, design can make you happy".

We get extra excited when we're approached with website projects where one of the primary goals is to push both the design and technology envelope. So when Duke Energy retained us to work on a large internal communications project that requires innovative, cutting-edge design that integrates the latest website technology, we said "Count us in!" We couldn't be happier about working with them and look forward to sharing more with you as the project unfolds!
