Charlotte-based digital agency, Studiobanks has been recognized with an esteemed Webby Award for its work on Muzak’s 75th Anniversary website. The website, which showcases Muzak’s successful history in an ever-evolving industry, was selected as an Official Honoree for the Corporate Communications category category in the 14th Annual Webby Awards.
The Webby Awards are the Internet's most respected symbol of success. Winners of the 14th Annual Webby Awards were chosen by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, a global organization whose members include David Bowie, Harvey Weinstein, Arianna Huffington, Matt Groening, Internet inventor Vinton Cerf, Twitter co-founder Biz Stone, Virgin Group Chairman Richard Branson, and R/GA chairman and CEO Bob Greenberg. “To say we are excited about this accomplishment is an understatement because the Webby Awards are the Academy Awards for our industry,” said Banks Wilson, Studiobanks’ president and creative director. “Producing great work for our clients is what we value most, and we're very pleased to share this honor with long-time client, Muzak, who provided the opportunity to create such a memorable user experience that truly celebrates Muzak's rich history."
This year the Academy received nearly 10,000 entries from all 50 states and over 60 countries worldwide. Out of all entries submitted, less than 15 percent are awarded the status of Official Honoree, which recognizes remarkable achievement across several categories of web design.
“We began this project to honor Muzak’s legacy and to celebrate our exciting future ahead, so we’re thrilled that our website has been recognized with a Webby Award,” said Bruce McKagan, Muzak’s director of special music projects. “Our team worked hard to examine over 40 crates of archived materials, digitize music samples and write our official history, which, together with Studiobanks, made this success possible.”
Winners were selected for recognition based on excellence in the following criteria: content, structure and navigation, visual design, functionality, interactivity and overall experience.
Recognition by the Webby Awards includes an esteemed group of industry leaders such as: Amazon.com, eBay, Yahoo!, iTunes, Google, FedEx, BBC News, CNN, MSNBC, The New York Times, NPR, Salon Magazine, Facebook, Meetup, Wikipedia, Flickr, ESPN, Comedy Central, PBS, The Onion News Network, The Office Webisodes, and My Damn Channel.
In addition, Muzak’s 75th anniversary website was also recognized this year with both Gold and Silver ADDY Awards by the American Advertising Federation.
