The 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan left many of us looking for ways to help with the relief efforts. To that end, Studiobanks and ad agency BooneOakley partnered to create JapanSaver.com, a site designed to sustain awareness and encourage donations to the earthquake and tsunami victims.
JapanSaver features a free, downloadable screensaver that displays simple, yet powerful imagery to help maintain awareness about the ongoing need for aid in Japan. The screensaver features a sheet of graph paper scrolling by as a seismograph needle jumps around as though it’s tracking an earthquake. The resulting image is the red sun of the Japanese flag. The site includes a link that allows visitors to donate directly to the American Red Cross, as well as Facebook and Twitter links for users to easily share the site with friends.
Kate Meier, the American Red Cross’ regional communications director, commented on the site saying “Our hearts go out to the people of Japan and the others who survived the recent earthquake and tsunami. With efforts like JapanSaver.com, people are reminded that they can help the American Red Cross meet the immediate and long-term needs of earthquake and tsunami survivors in Japan.”
